Types of Service
					Mission Focus Education In keeping with St. Magdalene's initial goal to develop and form the poor through education, the Canossian community operates schools and learning centers at its missions around the world. The education missions include all ages---kindergarten through college---and all subject areas. Opportunities are available in both formal and informal education. Our greatest need is for qualified teachers for secondary-level and adult education for English, computers, and mathematics. An education degree is not required, but some experience is preferred. Most of the teaching positons require a two-year commitment. Medical St. Magdalene also advocated care for the sick and health services for the needy. Today, Canossian sisters operate dispensaries and health clinics in all parts of the world. We have a need for qualified and licensed health care professionals to serve at these missions. Among the services needed are nurses, general practice doctors, dentists, surgeons, and pharmacists. Both long term and short term missions are available. Pastoral Care As missionaries, we are called to do more and be more for the people we serve. Through pastoral care, we respond to the needs of the community by providing a variety of services, including construction, maintenance and repair of facilities and assisting in community problem solving. In our pastoral care missions, we remain open and flexible in what we are called to do. Length of Service We offer both long term and short term service opportunities. Long Term Our long-term service opportunities are for those interested in serving for one to two years---or more. These opportunities focus mostly on education and medical care. Short Term Our short-term service opportunities are for those interested in spending 4-6 weeks in service. These projects are usually carried out during the summer (July and August). The projects focus on medical care and pastoral care.
