Structure of VOICA
VOICA is part of the Canossian Community's overall objective to serve those most in need in all corners of the world. As such, VOICA is headquartered at the Canossian's international mission preparation center in Rome, Italy.

The VOICA office comprises an International Coordinator, a lay assistant coordinator, and a formation team.

VOICA volunteers, both long term and short term, participate in a discernment and formation process designed to enable the volunteer to serve to his or her best ability in the mission and to be an active participant in the worldwide Catholic Church and in the global society.

The Stages of the Discernment and Formation Process

Initial discernment and application. The volunteer completes the VOICA application for service and begins an ongoing dialogue with the VOICA staff to determine whether the volunteer can be placed in a mission. Once accepted, the volunteer and VOICA staff will remain in contact as the volunteer prepares to depart from his or her home.

Pre-service formation. The volunteer attends a mandatory formation session at the VOICA house in Rome. During this time, the volunteer examines the four pillars of VOICA---Spirituality, Formation, Community, and Service---and prepares for his or her assigned mission.

Service at the mission. The volunteer serves at a Canossian mission while living in community with other VOICA volunteers. While at the mission, the volunteer is supported by the on-site Canossian community and by the VOICA office in Rome.

Post-service formation (long-term only). Following the service at the mission, the volunteer returns to Rome for a formation session designed to help the volunteer examine the mission experience and prepare to return home.

All through the process, the volunteer and the VOICA staff work together in a spirit of faith and service.
