VOICA volunteers have a strong commitment to the community of Piabetà in Brazil, through both long-term and short-term projects, including the annual Happy August! summer program. To continue their work, the volunteers have begun a new project, SOS Animators Piabetà.

The purpose of this project is to provide informal education and formation to the children and youth of Piabeta and to offer them an alternative to the dangers and vices of life on the streets. The volunteers have already purchased a large piece of land and built a playground and game room for the children. Now, they want to provide educational programs through six animators to be supported by VOICA.

Through SOS Animators Piabetà, the children of the community would receive four hours of educational games and instruction in the morning or the afternoon. In addition, each child would receive a small, nutritious snack each day. The volunteers hope to be able to serve as many as 300 children with this project.

The cost to operate the project is $600 per month.
